There are some special cases when they also recruit female candidates for operations. But you need to have a good Gate score and you have to do great in interviews and gds.
First of all, this is an answer reflecting what I have heard/ experienced in my life so far and many of you may,obviously, differ, so kindly do not take it personally as I am not an expert. I do not have enough information to comment about all of them, you mentioned above, at a time but first of all, I would like to inform you that all of the PSUs do not place you with same mentality which simply means that even if you are a Chemical Engineer that does not confirms your posting in refinery. Some of them,as IOCL does that frequently as far as I know, will post you, preferably, away from your home town and not necessarily in refinery.
I am going to share whatever I know and you can deduce from it, if it will be of any use. One of my friend who had secured AIR 8, couple of years back, was placed at one of the terminals, in IOCL, where he is supposed to do tank gauging, that means he is supposed to sitdown in a portable cabin and check level of tankers going out every now and then. He was pretty sure that he will be placed in one of the refineries and will be given a choice as well.
Similarly another friend, a girl, got her placement in marketing as most of the girls were not getting placement in operations but in other case one of my friend got placement in Mathura refinery, near to her hometown, as she requested to them. So you can see that life is not echoing in the same way for everybody. In HPCL choices are limited (2 refineries, in Mumbai and Vizag) and they put all girls in operations as well. IOCL have large number of options so they can put you anywhere. In ONGC they have appreciable requirement of manpower who are supposed to work in on-off shifts ( either 15 days duty and 15 days off while offshore duty and 28 days on and 28 days off as there in Agartala) but girls do not get those duties to do. They can get a lavish life if posted in Delhi or Tel bhavan in Dehradun or places like that.
Others are also having similar situations. Sometimes you can predict where are you gping to get placement and sometimes it will be a surprise. So I will suggest you to do as much research about your preferences, as possible and then it will be easier for you.
