l The training has to have a set goal or objective - With this session whatare we trying to accomplish. This differs from the “why” in that the goal should be quantitative the “why” should be qualitative. The goal should also be specific in what the “success point” is and what the date range to complete the goal is. For instance, we want to improve our sales revenue by 15% in the next quarter.
l The training should provide a set of steps that move towards achievement of the overall goal. The steps need to be specific so that anyone on your team can follow them. Remember that assumptions are the mother of all screw ups.
l There needs to be supplemental reference materials outside of the initial training. Keep in mind that roughly 70% of all information taught will be lost within 24 hours. Provide some sort of reference for trainees so that they can easily find the information they need, when they need it, without the need of contacting the trainer.
l Once training is complete, there should be some sort of monitoring occurring on a regular basis to ensure that progress is being made. In addition, if there are any team members who are struggling, it should be addressed so they can be successful. There obviously needs to be an ultimate goal checkup at the end of the designated time period as well.
l Test, revise, repeat. In order to continuously improve, it is imperative that you constantly look for wares where improvement can be made. Ask your team members, reference your goals and continue to mold your program as necessity dictates.
